What to Bring to Camp

 

Hello Mountain Bikers and Parents,

We’re thrilled to welcome you to our Mountain Biking Camp at Camp Fortune! Below, you’ll find all the important information to help you prepare for an exciting and safe week of riding and adventure.

Week 1 Important Note – Quebec Holiday

For the first week of camp, due to the Quebec holiday weekend, bus service will not be running.
For bus information for the remainder of the summer, please refer to the bus schedule at the end of this page or via the menu above.


Camp Location & Drop-Off/Pick-Up Info

 Camp Fortune – 300 Dunlop Road, Chelsea, Quebec
Free Pre-Camp Care: 8:00-9:00 AM
Free Post-Camp Care: 4:00-5:00 PM

Please let us know by email if your child requires a later pickup.

Drop-Off/Pick-Up Location:
All drop-offs and pick-ups will take place at Alexander Lodge (blue building on the hill).
When driving up Dunlop Road, do not turn left toward the main chalet—continue straight and follow the road up to Alexander Lodge.

Campers must stay at the lodge while waiting. Please remind your child not to explore the area, as there is active construction on-site.

Between 9:00-9:10 AM, all campers and staff will walk to our headquarters at Maple Lodge.


Bringing Bikes to Camp

  • On Monday, please ensure your child’s bike is brought to the bus (if using bus transport) or brought directly to camp (if being dropped off).
  • All bikes will be securely stored at Camp Fortune for the week.
  • Bikes will be returned on Friday during pickup or on the final bus ride home.

What to Bring to Mountain Biking Camp

Food

  • Nut-free lunch and morning/afternoon snacks
  • No food or drink sharing allowed
  • Campers will be asked to bring home all waste (wrappers, containers, etc.)

Biking Gear

  • Bike (must have gears; bring on Monday unless renting)
  • Helmet (CSA/CE approved, less than 5 years old, no visible damage)
  • Spare inner tube (approx. $10 if needed)
  • Gloves
  • Water bottle or hydration pack
  • Elbow and knee pads (recommended)

Clothing & Personal Items

  • Properly fitted, closed-toe biking shoes
  • No baggy or loose-fitting clothes
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Bug spray
  • Bathing suit and towel
  • Extra water bottles
  • Rain gear: rain jacket, rain boots, change of clothes/socks
    (Extra clothing can be left at camp for the week)

Bike Requirements

Before camp, please ensure your child’s bike is:

  • In good working condition (smooth gear shifting, functional brakes)
  • Tires are inflated and have knobby mountain bike treads
  • Free of kickstands, locks, baskets, or racks

Electronics Policy

Campers should not bring cell phones, electronic toys, or similar devices to camp.
NKC, Camp Fortune, and the Ottawa Catholic School Board are not responsible for lost or damaged property.
Campers can contact parents through head staff if needed.


Camper Conduct Expectations

All campers are expected to treat others with respect and kindness. We have a zero-tolerance policy for:

  1. Physical/verbal assault, harassment, discrimination, or psychological abuse
  2. Disrespect or damage to the property of others

Violations may result in suspension or termination from camp.

  1. Kanata Signature Centre (near Dairy Queen, 499 Terry Fox Dr.)
    • Departure: 7:45 AM
    • Return: 5:00-5:15 PM
  2. Pinecrest Shopping Centre (near Starbucks, 2735 Iris St.)
    • Departure: 8:15 AM
    • Return: 4:30-4:45 PM

BUS #2

  1. Place d’Orléans (near The Bay)
    • Departure: 8:00 AM
    • Return: 5:00-5:15 PM
  2. University of Ottawa – 200 Lees
    • Departure: 8:30 AM
    • Return: 4:15-4:30 PM
